Sanctuary of the Heart
(wood, rope, paint, bristol board hearts, calligraphic brush pens, recycled flame-colored silk string)

Sanctuary of the Heart captures the multitudes that are within our heart. When we are happily in love our heart is full and bright, and, when heart has been broken, it can be hard to see anything full or cheery. These are stages we all go through in our lives.

There were two primary themes in the work: Love and Heartbreak. The love side was painted red and completely smooth, always curvy, and free of splinters - bright and full. The loss side was sharp, only jagged with rough cuts and splinters. It was painted blue.

People were given the chance to write on and touch soft, strong, and beautiful objects to participate with. Mr. Verdon worked with many volunteers and this object was burned at the end of the Festival.
